Wally Broecker, the godfather of CarbFix, has passed away

Wally Broecker, the godfather of the CarbFix project, passed away yesterday at the age of 87. Wally was one of the founders of the CarbFix project along with scientists from University of Iceland, CNRS in Toulouse, Columbia University and Reykjavík Energy. The project was founded in 2007 following Wally’s visit to Iceland in 2006 when the president of Iceland invited him to give a talk on climate change and carbon mineralization in basalts.

CarbFix at the Stanford Geothermal Workshop

Thomas Ratouis, a reservoir engineer at Reykjavík Energy presented his paper on “Modelling the Complex Structural Features Controlling Fluid Flow at the Carbfix Reinjection Site, Hellisheidi Geothermal Power Plant, SW-Iceland” at the 44th Annual Stanford Geothermal Workshop.

CarbFix at the Climate Meeting in Helsinki

Edda Aradóttir, project manager of CarbFix and coordinator of the EU funded CarbFix2 project, gave an invited presentation on CarbFix as a solution in the fight against climate change at the Climate Meeting of Prime Ministers and Ministers for Climate Action and Environment in Helsinki on 25 January.
